MCU-Southeast Michigan received a briefing on Tuesday, October 10 from Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard fresh from a meeting with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the FBI and other national public safety leaders.
Several local leaders participated including County Commissioner Mike Spisz and Madison Heights Councilman David Soltis who serve on task forces, rescue chaplin Beth Grate and State Rep. candidate Malissa Bossardet. Cases were discussed involving methods used in the recruitment or kidnapping of victims, as well as the challenges in trying to identify and extract those suffering exploitation.
Related issues include prostitution and drug abuse. The rising problem of opioid addiction was also discussed.
Participants were impressed with the information, saddened by the epidemic, and resolved to do something about it. This is an important issue we will visit again in the near future.
