Officials throughout Monroe County were still reeling from last week’s news regarding DTE Energy filing for a 60 percent reduction of its Fermi 2 nuclear power plant valuation, more devastating news came this week. The energy company is seeking a higher tax reduction than previously discussed on its Monroe Power Plant, 3500 E. Front St. The energy company said the appeals with the Michigan Tax Tribunal are “merely protective appeals” and still wants to “negotiate” with community leaders. Some aren’t buying the rhetoric any longer.
“The bottom line is that DTE misled the government agencies and the impact will be felt by all,” said Dr. Stephen McNew, superintendent of the Monroe County Intermediate School District. More (Thanks, Dawn)
